Within the concrete shell of a small factory block in a conservation zone, the project opens the previously dark interior to the light, sun and air by inserting a new garden and courtyard.
The site is 82sqm and bounded on all sides by the existing concrete walls of the factory. Within this 2 storey volume new open plan living areas, a home office, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and off street parking are created. The street facade is
redesigned without losing the factory character.
A new stair tower and lightwell bring sun and air down to the ground floor. The building work was carried out by the owners acting as ownerbuilders. The project was twice featured in Domain in the Sydney Morning Herald.
